Malay traditions in Cape Town

The Malays brought Islam with them to South Africa. Devout Muslims observe Islamic practices, they go to prayers at the call for prayer from the mosques.
The Malays settled in
Cape Town at the foot of Lions Head, known today as Bo-Kaap, the majority of them today lives on the Cape Flats. Cobblestoned streets and brightly painted Georgian style houses are characteristic of Bo-Kaap. On New Years Day the Cape Coons, dressed in their brightly coloured outfits with their faces painted, they dance and sing through along the streets of Cape Town entertaining the crowds, an old tradition started by the slaves.

Discovering Pretoria

The city of Tshwane is a peaceful and lovely place, where life goes slow through old buildings and fascinating museums. The capital city has unique tourist attractions, as the “Union Building”, and the hospitality is one of the most important values for South African people. It is quite easy for the visitors to find their way through the city, which is laid out like a chess board. Moreover Pretoria is now preparing for the 2010 Fifa World Cup with many infrastructural developments.

The South African Brandy Route

Brandy, one of South Africa's most famous and finest products, is distilled and matured in many different cellars located in the rolling wine lands of the Western Cape. It can quite rightly be regarded as one of South Africa’s true national products, considering the fact that South African’s consume over 45 million litres of brandy each year. The Brandy route was launched in 1997, 325 years after the first brandy was distilled in South Africa. It is an exciting addition to the tourist attractions of the Western Cape. It stretches from Stellenbosch, through Paarl and Franschhoek to the Breede River Valley town of Worcester and includes a brandy museum.

Malta, language of details

In Malta, you'll explore 7000 years of history yet live passionately in the present.  The Maltese Islands have been described as one big open-air museum. What makes them unique is that so much of their past is visible today. Malta offers mysterious prehistory clearly shown in churches and cathedrals on the island, and also several legends and superstitions as the Osiride’s eyes painted on every ship.

Gambian Market

The Gambian market used to be the highlight of the day:  Early morning the women would put on their brightest to meet and exchange news,  weddings, births and chat as they buy the essentials for the day.  Foodstuff, toiletries, household stuff, clothes and shoes, batik fabrics, and arts and crafts; the African market is a real melting pot.  Everything is available. From fish, meat, chicken, spices etc. The cost price of anything is strictly bartering so you have to have a little time to indulge. The market is full of colour, smells and plenty of sounds.

Feeling Gambia

The most amazing thing about The Gambia is the feeling the friendliness, warm welcome, legendary smiling face and laid back manner of the people who live there.  Different ethnic groups live in harmony and are perfectly inter-mingled with their languages, cultures and social practices. An island surrounded by the cool Atlantic Ocean and River Gambia with its vast and pristine golden beaches, the perfect setting for a romantic midnight walk on the beach, swimming, sunbathing, horse riding, surfing, or sailing. The Gambian experience is quite unique.
